The best rooftop bars in downtown Sarasota

Six rooftops with a real view, real cocktails, and a real Sarasota crowd — ranked by what locals actually order on a Friday night.

Downtown Sarasota's skyline went vertical in the last ten years. The good news for visitors: a handful of those buildings turned their roofs into bars. The bad news: not all of them are good. This is the honest list — the ones a downtown local will actually take you to, in rough order from "first drink of the night" to "stay until midnight."

1. The Westin Sarasota — Rooftop Pool Bar

Twelve floors up, with a view straight across Sarasota Bay to Lido Key. The pool is for hotel guests but the bar is open to the public after 4pm. Order a vesper, sit at the corner that faces northwest, and watch the sun crash into the Gulf. Best for: sunset on your first night in town.

2. Pangea — Bayfront tower

The newest entry, on top of one of the residential towers near the bayfront. Smaller crowd, better cocktails, and the bartenders know what they're doing. They run a serious mezcal program. Order: the smoked Old Fashioned. Best for: a real cocktail conversation.

3. The Bristol — Pool deck

Less of a "rooftop bar" and more of a Friday afternoon scene that happens to be on a roof. It's where younger downtown professionals end up after work. Drinks are unremarkable; the energy is the point. Best for: a 5pm Friday with a group.

4. Vue at the Sarasota Modern

Boutique hotel, smaller rooftop, maybe the best food of any rooftop on this list. The wood-fired pizza is genuinely good. Crowd skews art-and-architecture types. Best for: a date that's also dinner.

5. The Sarasota Yacht Club rooftop (members & guests)

Not technically open to the public, but most visitors don't realize that members can sign in guests. If you know someone, this is the move — bayfront, white-tablecloth, and a sunset view that's been considered the best in Sarasota for fifty years. Best for: a special occasion if you have an in.

6. The Westin again, after 9pm

Same place as #1, different vibe. After 9pm the pool deck closes and the bar gets quieter, more romantic, and the view of Sarasota at night is genuinely beautiful. Order a digestif. Best for: a nightcap.

The honest take: Sarasota only has two or three rooftops that are great and they're all clustered downtown. Pick one for sunset and one for after dinner — that's the whole rooftop night.

If you only do one

Pangea for the cocktails. The Westin for the view. If you can swing both, do Pangea at 8pm and the Westin at 11pm — they're a four-block walk apart and the contrast is the point.
